3rd Session - 10th Republican Parliament
The Vice-President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Sen. the Hon. Bhoendradatt Tewarie, who is out of the country. Ms. Patrcia Herry was appointed to temporarily replace Senator Tewarie during his absence. Additionally, Mr. Don Sylvester continues to serve as a Temporary Senator in place of the President of the Senate, who is also out of the country. The Vice-President also congratulated all students who obtained results from the Secondary Entrance Assessment and identified those students who scored the highest marks in Trinidad and in Tobago.
The Dog Control Bill, 2013 and the Sugar Industry Control Board (Repeal)(Validation) Bill, 2013 were read a first time in the Senate by the Attorney General and the Minister of Finance and the Economy respectively. In both cases the Minister moved that the next stage of the Bill be taken later in the proceedings and leave was granted.

Two Questions qualified for oral answer. Both questions were deferred.
The Attorney General moved the second reading of the Dog Control Bill, 2013. Opposition Sen. Faris Al-Rawi was the first to join the debate, followed by Independent Sen. Subhas Ramkhelawan, the Minister of Justice, Sen. Terrance Deyalsingh and Sen. Corinne Baptiste-Mc-Knight. 14 Senators made contributions before the Attorney General rose to conclude the debate. The Bill was considered in Committee and passed without amendment. It was then read a third time and passed. At third reading a division was taken the result of which was 28 for, 1 against, 1 abstention.
The Minister of Food Production moved the second reading of the Sugar Industry Control Board (Repeal) (Validation) Bill, 2013. Sen. Faris Al-Rawi was the first to contribute, followed by Sen. Subhas Ramkhelawan. The Minister of Food Production then rose to respond. The Bill was considered in Committee and passed without amendment. It was then read a third time and passed.
