The President granted leave of absence to Sen. the Hon. Anand Ramlogan, SC, Sen. Fitzgerald Hinds and Sen. Helen Drayton. Mr. Arnold Ram, Mrs. Sherrie Ali and Mr. Albert Sydney were appointed to temporarily replace Sen. Ramlogan, Sen. Hinds and Sen. Drayton respectively during their absence.
The Cariforum (Caribbean Community and Dominican Republic) European Community Economic Partnership Agreement Bill, 2011 was brought from the House of Representatives in the name of the Minister of Trade and Industry who moved that the next stage of the Bill be taken at a sitting of the Senate to be held on Wednesday May 23, 2012. This was approved by the Senate.
The Administration of Justice (Electronic Monitoring) Bill, 2011 was brought from the House of Representatives in the name of the Minister of Justice who moved that the next stage of the Bill be taken at a sitting of the Senate to be held on Wednesday May 23, 2012. This was approved by the Senate.

The Minister of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development moved the second reading of The Miscellaneous Provisions (Maternity Protection and the Masters and Servants Ordinance) Bill, 2012. Opposition Senator Faris Al-Rawi rose to provide the initial contribution to the debate followed by contributions by Independent Senator Dr. Victor Wheeler, Government Senator Nicole Dyer-Griffith, Opposition Senator Terrence Deyalsingh, Independent Senator Dr. Rolph Balgobin, Government Senator David Abdulah, Opposition Senators Shamfa Cudjoe, Sherrie Ali and Pennelope Beckles, and Government Senator the Honourable Dr. Bhoendradatt Tewarie. The Minister of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development then rose to conclude the debate. The Bill was considered in Committee and passed without amendment. It was then read a third time and passed 30 for, no abstentions.
The Minister of Gender, Youth and Child Development moved the second reading of the Children Bill, 2012. Opposition Senator Faris Al-Rawi rose to provide the initial contribution to the debate followed by contributions by Independent Senator Corinne Baptiste-McKnight and Government Senator Lyndira Oudit. Debate was then suspended.
The Senate adjourned to Friday May 18, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at which time debate is expected to continue on the Children Bill, 2012. The sitting ended at 9:48 p.m.
