The Speaker granted Leave of Absence to the Member for Couva North and the Member for St. Joseph.
Five Questions qualify for written answer. The responses to four questions were circulated on a CD.
The Leader of the Opposition raised as a Matter of Privilege statements made by the Member for D’Abadie/O’Meara on January 14, 2010. The Speaker indicated that he would rule at the next sitting of the House.
The Member for Diego Martin West raised a matter on the appointment of a Director of the Security Intelligence Agency (SIA). The Speaker ruled that the matter did not qualify under Standing Order 12, but would qualify under Standing Order 11.
The Minister of Works and Transport made a statement on Caribbean Airlines.
The Minister of National Security moved the second reading of the Firearms (Amendment) Bill, 2010. The Member for Laventille East/Morvant was first to enter the debate, followed by the Minister of Works and Transport and the Member for Arouca/Maloney. Thirteen Members made contributions before the Minister of National Security rose to conclude. The Bill was considered in Committee and passed without amendment. It was then read a third time and passed. A division was taken at third reading, the result of which was 36 for, none against, no abstentions.
The Leader of the Opposition raised the issue of the well publicized alleged conduct of the Chairman of the Police Service Commission. The Minister of National Security responded.
