The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Sen. the Hon. Anand Ramlogan S.C.,Sen. the Hon. Gary Griffith, Sen. James Lambert,Sen. Camille Robinson-Regis, Sen. Shamfa Cudjoe, Sen. Dr. Victor Wheeler and Sen. Dr. Dhanayshar Mahabir who are all out of the country.
The President then read a letter from the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago appointing Mr. Stuart Young, Mr. Foster Cummings, Dr. Aysha B Edwards and Ashaki Scott. as temporary Senators. They then took the Oath of Allegiance as temporary Senators for the day’s sitting.
Later in the proceedings the President of the Senate acknowledged the passing of High Court Judge Justice William Guy Hannays. The Senate then took a moment of silence to mourn his passing.
After the break, the President of the Senate reverted to item no. 3 under Announcements and read a letter from the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago appointing Mr. Nazeemool Mohammed (Government), Archbishop Barbara Burke and Dr. Kriyaan Singh (Independent) as temporary Senators for today’s Sitting.
Before adjourning the Sitting, the President of the Senate then opened way for Senators to commemorate Indian Arrival Day. Sen. the Hon. Devant Maharaj was the first to make his remarks followed by Sen. Diane Baldeo-Chadeesingh, Sen. Rev. Joy Abdul-Mohan. The President of the Senate then wished the nation a Happy Indian Arrival Day before concluding the 25th Sitting of the Senate.

By the Minister of Finance and the Economy presented the Third Report of the Special Select Committee appointed to consider and report on the Securities (Amendment) Bill, 2013 and the Third Interim Report of the Joint Select Committee appointed to consider and report on the Insurance (No. 2) Bill, 2013

The President introduced and read a first time “The Beauty Services Association of Trinidad & Tobago Bill, 2014”
The Minister of Finance and the Economy moved that the Special Select Committee on the Securities Bill be granted an extension of two weeks from June 6th, 2014 in order to submit a final report to the Senate. The Motion was put and agreed to. The Minister of Finance and the Economy the moved that the Joint Select Committee appointed to consider and report on he Insurance Bill, 2013 be granted an extension of four weeks in order to complete its work and to submit a final report by June 27, 2014. The question was put and agreed to by the Senate
Debate on the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Bill, 2014 which was in progress on Tuesday May 20th 2014 was resumed. The Minister of Tourism was the first to enter the debate followed by Sen. Stuart Young, Sen. Hugh Russell Ian Roach and Sen. Ashaki Scott. The President of the Senate then acknowledged Sen. Ashaki Scott’s maiden contribution in the Senate before Sen. Diane Baldeo-Chadeesingh rose to make her comments on the Bill. Sen. Elton Prescott, SC was next to contribute followed by Sen. Avinash Singh, Sen. Anthony Vieira, Sen. Foster Cummings, Sen. David Small, Sen. Rev. Joy Abdul-Mohan and Sen. Dr. Aysha Edwards. The Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development then rose to respond to the contributions of previous Members.
Senator Faris Al-Rawi raised a Motion on Matter on the Adjournment concerning the need for the Minister of Finance and the Economy to address the continued restriction and sometimes closure of the Stamp Duty Section at the Inland Revenue Division in Port of Spain which has hampered the payment of Stamp Duty on instruments thereby exposing citizens to unnecessary expense and extreme jeopardy of security in their property and other interests. The Minister of Finance and the Economy then responded and contributed on the Matter raised.
