Mr. Ganga Singh, MP, sought leave to move the adjournment of the House on a definite matter of urgent public importance namely the failure of the Prime Minister to trigger Section 137 of the Constitution of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for the appointment of a Tribunal to inquire into the conduct of the Chief Justice. The Speaker was not satisfied that this matter qualified under this Standing Order.
Mr. Barry Padarath also sought leave on a matter regarding the failure of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to negotiate and finalize long term contracts for the collection and disposal of garbage and waste services affecting the constituencies of Princes Town, Naparima, Moruga / Tableland and Sa Fernando East. The Speaker was not satisfied that this matter qualified under this Standing Order.
The Attorney General moved the second reading of The Magistrates Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2018.Four members made contributions before the Attorney General rose to conclude. The Bill was then read a second time and referred to a Committee of the Whole where it was considered and approved. The Bill was then read a third time and passed.
The Member for Caroni Central raised as a matter on the adjournment, “the need for Government to ensure that there is a constant and reliable water supply in Trinidad and Tobago.” The Minister of Public Utilities responded.
The Sitting concluded at 5:50 p.m. The House adjourned to Friday February 22, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. At the next sitting Private Business will take precedence.
