The Clerk of the Senate read a Proclamation by His Excellency the President declaring the 3rd Session of the 10th Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago open.

Leave of Absence

The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Senators Basharat Ali and Dr. Rolph Balgobin. The President then informed the Senate that the President of the Republic wished to address the members of both Houses assembled together. The sitting was suspended.

His Excellency to address both Houses assembled together

His Excellency Prof. George Maxwell Richards, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago addressed the Members of both Houses of Parliament assembled together.

Motions Relating To The Business Or Sittings Of The House And Moved By A Minister Or Parliamentary Secretary
His Excellency's Address to be printed as a House Paper

The Leader of Government Business moved that the address of His Excellency be printed as a House Paper. The Senate approved.

The Senate adjourned to a date to be fixed. Before adjourning, brief statements were made in the House by the Leader of Government Business, the Leader of the Opposition and the President of the Senate, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Independence in Trinidad and Tobago.
