1st Sitting of the House of Representatives
1st Session - 9th Republican Parliament
The Clerk of the House read the proclamation declaring the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago open.
The oath of allegiance was administered to Mr. Barendra Sinanan by the Clerk of the House. Mr. Sinanan was duly elected Speaker of the House and assumed the Chair.
Miss Pennelope Beckles was elected Deputy Speaker and took the oath of office.
All remaining Members of the House of Representatives (other than the Speaker and Deputy Speaker) take the oath of office.
The Speaker announced that His Excellency wished to address both Houses of Parliament assembled together. He then suspended the sitting.
His Excellency Professor George Maxwell Richards TC CMT PhD, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago addresses the Members of the Senate and House of Representatives assembled together.
The Immigration (Advance Passenger Information) Bill, 2007 and The International Child Abduction (No.2) Bill, 2007 were introduced.
The House adjourned to a date to be fixed, after brief statements from the Prime Minister, Opposition Chief Whip and Speaker.
