The President granted leave of Absence to Sen. the Hon. Arnold Piggott and Sen. Annette Nicholson-Alfred. Mr. Foster Cummings and Prof. David Picou were appointed to temporarily replace Senators Piggott and Nicholson-Alfred.
The President of the Senate made an announcement pertaining to advice received from the Chief Medical Officer on the period of containment for the H1 N1 virus, specifically as it relates to the presence in the Chamber of Sen. Wade Mark, who was aboard a flight on which there was a confirmed case of the virus.
The Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Bill, 2009, which was passed in the House of Representatives on Wednesday June 3, 2009, was read a first time in the Senate. The Bill is in the name of the Attorney General.
Two Papers were laid by the Leader of Government Business, one in the name of the Minister of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education and the other in the name of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. See the Order Paper for details.

Sen. Wade Mark made a personal explanation pertaining to his presence in the Chamber following his being on a flight on which there was a confirmed case of the H1 N1 virus.
One Bill, the Metrology (Amendment) Bill, 2009, was introduced. The Bill is in the name of the Minister of Trade and Industry.
The Minister of Local Government moved a Motion asking the Senate to adopt the Report of the Special Select Committee of the Senate on the Emergency Ambulance Services and Emergency Medical Personnel Bill, 2009. After the presentation of the Minister, Sen. Dr. Adesh Nanan was first to enter the debate, followed by Sen. Corinne Baptiste-McKnight and Sen. Helen Drayton. A total of five Senators made contributions before debate was suspended.
Sen. Lyndira Oudit raised as a matter on the adjournment of the Senate, the failure of the Minister of Works and Transport to address the hazards posed by the dilapidated Godineau Bridge in South Oropouche. The Minister of Works and Transport responded.
At its next sitting the Senate will continue debate on the Motion to adopt the Report of the Special Select Committee on the Emergency Ambulance Services and Emergency Medical Personnel Bill, 2009. The sitting adjourned at 5:36 p.m.
