The Minister of Finance, Hon. Colm Imbert, MP, made a statement on allegations made by the Auditor General on the submission by the Treasury of the accounts for the Financial Year 2023.
The ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 Bill, 2024 will be introduced in the name of the Attorney General, who will move that the next stage of the Bill be taken on April 30, 2024.
The Minister of Finance, Hon. Colm Imbert, MP, will move a motion for the Extension of period of time under sections 24(1) and 25(1) of the Exchequer and Audit Act Chap. 69:01. Debate began on the motion. Nine senators contributed to the debate before the wind up by the Minister of Finance. With 23 votes for, 6 votes against and 1 abstention, the motion was approved.
Sen. Paul Richards raised a matter on the adjournment namely the need for urgent legislative reform to address risks posed to the democratic electoral process by the pervasive misuse of social media and digital platforms, in light of the general elections due by 2025 in Trinidad and Tobago. The Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister – Communications, Hon. Symon de Nobriga, MP, responded.
Sen. Anthony Vieira, S.C., raised a matter on the adjournment namely the need for legislation to provide for Lasting
Powers of Attorney. The Attorney General, Sen. the Hon. Reginald Armour, S.C., responded.
