13th Sitting of the Senate
2nd Session - 9th Republican Parliament
The President announced the revocation of the appointment of Sen. Dr. Carson Charles and the appointment of Dr. Sharon-Ann Gopaul Mc Nicol.
Six Papers were laid. Three Papers were in the name of the Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister in the Ministry of Finance, one in the name of the Minister of Public Administration and two in the name of the Minister of Public Utilities.
The Minister of Local Government presented the First Special Report of the Special Select Committee of the Senate appointed to consider and report on the Emergency Ambulance Services and Emergency Medical Personnel Bill, 2009.

The Leader of Government Business moved that the Senate deal with Committee Business before Private Business. Leave was granted.
The Minister of Local Government moved a Motion to adopt the First Special Report of the Special Select Committee of the Senate on the Emergency Ambulance Services and Emergency Medical Personnel Bill, 2009. The Motion was approved and the report adopted.
Debate then resumed (from March 24, 2009) on a Private Motion by Sen. Dr. Adesh Nanan which asks the House to take steps to ensure that the sewerage function of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) remain the sole responsibility of the Authority as provided for in law. Sen. Prof. Ramesh Deosaran was the first to contribute, followed by Sen. Lyndira Oudit. Some five members made contributions before debate was suspended.
Sen. Mark raised as a Matter on the Adjournment of the Senate, the failure of the Minister of National Security to legalise the Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago. The Minister of National Security responded.
Sen. Mark raised a second mtter, namely, the failure of the Minister of Finance to take appropriate measures to safeguard the rights and interests of the working class and poor people in a period of economic decline.. The Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister in the Ministry of Finance responded.
At the next sitting of the Senate, debate is expected to begin on the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2009
