Leave of Absence was granted to Sen. the Hon. Arnold Piggott, who is out of the country. Mr. Foster Cummings was sworn in to replace Sen. Piggott during his absence from Trinidad and Tobago.
The Trinidad and Tobago National Steel Symphony Orchestra Corporation Bill, 2008, which was passed in the House of Representatives on Friday April 11, 2008, was read a first time in the Senate. It is in the name of the Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs (Hon. Marlene McDonald, MP)
Six Papers are expected to be laid. All papers were laid by the Leader of Government Business on behalf of the Minister of Works and Transport.

The Attorney-General (Sen. the Hon. Bridgid Annisette-George) moved the second reading of the Retiring Allowances (Legislative Service)(Amendment) Bill, 2008, which was passed in the House of Representatives on 14 March 2008. Eight Members spoke on the Bill before the Attorney General concluded the debate. The Bill was not referred to a Committee of the Whole. The Bill required a special (three-fifths) majority so a division was taken. The result of the division was 28 for and one against (Sen. Subhas Ramkhelawan).
The Senate adjourned to Tuesday April 22, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. On that occasion the Senate will deal with Private Business.
