The Speaker granted leave of absence to Dr. Rai Ragbir, MP for Cumuto/Manzanilla, from today’s Sitting and to Mrs. Camille Robinson-Regis, MP for Arouca/Maloney for the period 27 January-27 February, 2021.
Tributes were shared in the House on the passing of Mr. Eden Shand, who was a Member of the House of Representatives during the 3rd Republican Parliament (1986-1991). The House observed a moment of silence.
The House paid tribute to Mr. Clifton De Coteau, who was a Member of the House in the 10th Republican Parliament (2010-2015). The House observed a minute of silence.
The Speaker read communication from the President of the Senate informing of changes made in the Senate to the membership of several Joint Select Committees.
The Evidence (Amendment) Bill, which was passed in the Senate, is to be read a first time in the House.

The Leader of the Opposition moved a Motion asking the House to express its lack of confidence in the Minister of National Security. The Minister of National Security was first to respond. 31 Members made contributions before the Ag. Leader of the House moved that the question be put. 20 members voted for, 18 against. The question was then put on the Motion with 18 Members voting for, 20 against. The Motion was not approved.
At the next Sitting, the House is expected to consider the Evidence (Amendment) Bill, 2020. The sitting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
