Leave of Absence

The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Sen. Anand Ramlogan. Mr. Rabindra Moonan was appointed to temporarily replace Sen. Ramlogan during his absence.

Motion: Approve the Water Improvement Rate (Point Lisas Industrial Estate)(Variation) Order, 2011

The Minister of Public Utilities moved a Motion which asked the House to approve the Water Improvement Rate (Point Lisas Industrial Estate)(Variation) Order, 2011. The debate was initiated by the Opposition Senator Fitzgerald Hinds followed by contributions by Independent Senator Basharat Ali, Senator the Honourable Kevin Ramnarine, Opposition Senator Faris Al-Rawi, Senator the Honourable Dr. Bhoendradatt Tewarie and Opposition Senator Dr. Lester Henry. Further contributions were made by Independent Senator Helen Drayton, Senator the Honourable Verna St. Rose Greaves, Opposition Senators Terrence Deyalsingh, Shamfa Cudjoe and Pennelope Beckles. The Minister of Public Utilities responded to all debate issues in closing and the motion was approved.

Closure of El Dorado Youth Camp Facility for Girls

The Leader of Opposition Business questions the Government’s intention to close down the only Youth Camp Training Facility for Girls located in El Dorado in order to construct a Nursing Academy. The Minister of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education responded.

The Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate questions the role of the Naparima Bowl and its suitability for use as a training facility for nurses and other medical staff. The Minister of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education responded.
