1st Session - 10th Republican Parliament
Tributes were paid in the Senate to Mr. Doddridge Alleyne, former permanent secretary and Head of the Public Service, by Sen. the Hon. Subhas Panday, Sen. Pennelope Beckles and Sen. Corinne Baptiste-McKnight.
The President of the Senate advised the House of Motions approved by the House of Representatives for the establishment of two Joint Select Committees (JSCs). The first JSC deals with legislative proposals on public procurement, disposal of public property, and the revocation of the Central Tenders Board Act. The second JSC was appointed to deal with parliamentary accommodation.
The Petrotrin Pensions (No.2) Bill, 2010, which was passed in the House of Representatives on October 8, 2010, was read a first time in the Senate in the name of the Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs.

The Leader of the House moved five motions seeking to appoint Senators to the PAC, the PAEC, the JSC Municipalities and Service Commissions, the JSC Part I, and the JSC Part II. The members were named and the motions approved.
Debate resumed (from August 3, 2010) on a Private Motion by Sen. Subhas Ramkhelawan which asks the Parliament to take steps to evaluate and maximize its efficiency and effectiveness. Sen. Pennelope Beckles concluded her contribution. She was followed by Sen. Corinne Baptiste-McKnight, the Minister of Public Administration, the maiden contribution of Temporary Opposition Senator Terrence Deyalsingh, Sen. Dr. Rolph Balgobin, Sen. Kevin Ramnarine and Sen. Dr. James Armstrong. Debate on the Motion was then suspended.
At its next sitting, the Leader of Government Business in the Senate will continue moving the second reading of the Evidence (Amendment)(No.2) Bill, 2010. Time permitting, debate is also expected to begin on the Bail (Amendment) Bill, 2010 and the Miscellaneous Provisions (Kidnapping and Bail) Bill, 2010. The sitting adjourned at 5:52 p.m.
