Tribute was paid to Ms. Eulalie James, former member of Parliament for Laventille West (1995-2007) who passed away recently at the age of 72. The House then stood in silence for one minute.
Six Questions qualified for oral answer. Four were answered with two being deferred to the next Sitting. See the Order Paper for details.
The Honourable Minister of Housing and the Environment made a statement with regard to planned strategies by the Government to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and increase the utilisation of reusable energy sources.
The Speaker moved the first reading of a Private Bill, the Way of Trinidad and Tobago (Incorporation) Bill, 2011. The Administration of Justice (Indictable Proceedings) Bill, 2011, which is in the name of the Minister of Justice, was also read a first time.
The Member for Port-of-Spain North/St. Ann’s West moved a Private Motion asking the Government to ensure that students receive all textbooks necessary for a sound education. The Minister of Education was first to respond to the Motion before the debate was suspended.
The House adjourns to Friday November 18, 2011 at 1:30 p.m., at which time Government intends to take through all its stages the Administration of Justice (Indictable Proceedings) Bill, 2011.
