Signing Ceremony between the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago and the United Nations Development Programme

On Monday February 6, 2012, Senator the Honourable Timothy Hamel-Smith, President of the Senate and the Honourable Wade Mark, MP, Speaker of the House, will sign an agreement with Dr. Marcia de Castro, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, between the Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the UNDP for Parliamentary Strengthening. This signing ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m. in the Reception Room of the Office of the Parliament, Level 2, Tower D, Port-of-Spain International Waterfront Centre, 1A Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain.
Some the initiatives to be implemented include:
  • The strengthening of the legislative function of Parliament
  • The strengthening of outreach and communications initiatives of Parliament
  • Establishing Parliament as an autonomous functioning entity
  • Improving Parliamentary scrutiny. 
This project will be funded by both the Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the UNDP.
 
The signing ceremony will feature a presentation by Mr. Edo Stork, Deputy Resident Representative, UNDP and addresses by Dr. Marcia De Castro, Resident Representative, UNDP and the Honourable Wade Mark, MP, Speaker of the House.
