The Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and ParlAmericas hosted a Post-Election Seminar for new and returning parliamentarians from June 24-26, 2025. The programme featured brief remarks by representatives of the organizing bodies. The Honourable Jagdeo Singh, MP, Speaker of the House, delivered the feature address.
A post-election seminar allows new and returning parliamentarians to have improved knowledge and skills to undertake their parliamentary duties. New and returning parliamentarians:
• will have an in-depth understanding of parliamentary practice and procedure and the skills to legislate, scrutinise, provide oversight, and represent their constituents to the highest standard
• will have a better understanding of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s and ParlAmerica’s relevant networks, including the purpose, values, and opportunities of the organisations and;
• will be able to identify examples and adopt good practices to better help them maintain a high standard of delivering their parliamentary responsibilities.
Speakers at this seminar included Hon. Speaker Donna Skelly, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Ms. Shirley M. Osborne, former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Montserrat, former Senator, Dr. Paul Richards and former Clerk of the House and current Ombudsman of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Mrs. Jacqui Sampson-Meiguel.
