Ms. Christine Kangaloo was elected our nation’s new Head of State at a Meeting of the Electoral College held on Friday January 20, 2023.
At the Meeting of the Electoral College, two nominees were presented – Ms. Christine Kangaloo (Government’s nominee) and Mr. Israel Raja Khan (Opposition’s nominee). Since there were two nominees, members were invited to cast their secret ballot. 73 ballots were cast. Ms. Kangaloo secured the post with 48 votes. Mr. Khan received 22 votes and 3 ballots were spoilt. Ms. Kangaloo is the seventh President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the second female President of the Republic.
Ms. Kangaloo’s term of office will commence in March 2023.
