Mrs. Nafeesa Mohammed comes from a family steeped in the politics of Trinidad and Tobago. Uncle Kamaluddin Mohammed was one of the founding members of the People's National Movement, as well as one of the longest serving Members of Parliament (30 years).

Mrs. Mohammed served as an Opposition Senator during the 5th Republican Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago.
