Mr. Satyakama "Kama" Maharaj was appointed a Senator and Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism on May 7, 2025.

Mr. Maharaj is the Founder and Managing Director of Sacha Cosmetics, a company which he started in 1979, following his decision to leave his job as a mathematics teacher at Fyzabad Composite School. An experienced manufacturer, Mr. Maharaj has received numerous accolades in entrepreneurship, including being named in 2012, among the country's "Top 50 Icons & Exemplars" from 1962-2012, being awarded the Trinidad & Tobago Chamber of Commerce “Champion of Business 2014”, the Caribbean Development Agency “2014 Caribbean Exporter of the Year” and the EY Caribbean Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016.

Mr. Maharaj has a degree in economics and is a founding member of the Hibiscus Foundation that cares for children born with AIDS.
