Mrs. Janelle John-Bates was appointed Opposition Senator on May 23, 2025 at the start of the 13th Republican Parliament.

Mrs. John-Bates is a Barrister and Attorney-at-Law practicing civil, criminal and family law. She holds a Masters Degree in Law with distinction and is a trained mediator, who worked at the Family Court and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
