Mr. Ganace Ramdial was elected as President of the Senate on November 27, 1995 and re-elected on January 12, 2001. Senator Ramdial was born in 1935, was married and the father of two children. He was an Attorney-at-Law having been called to the Bar of the United Kingdom as a member of the Inner Temple in 1963. He was also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of the UK. Mr. Ramdial served as Chairman of several Boards in both the public and private sectors. He was the President of the Institute of Banking of Trinidad and Tobago and Chairman and CEO of the Trinidad Cooperative Bank Limited and Trinidad Cooperative Bank Trust Company Limited.

Mr. Ramdial passed away on July 01, 2006 at the age of 71.

Tributes were paid to Mr. Ramdial in the Senate on 4 July 2006.
