Senator Dr. Rolph Balgobin
Dr. Rolph Balgobin is President and group Chief Executive Officer of the Electrical Industries Group, one of the largest industrial manufacturing groups in the Caribbean. He is also Executive Chairman of Quicksilver Convenience Limited and a Director of Neal and Massy Limited, the foremost indigenous multinational in the Caribbean.
Dr. Balgobin is the NGC Distinguished Fellow in Leadership at the University of the West Indies (UWI) and a Director of the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business at the UWI. He also chairs the Presentation College School Management and Advisory Board and is Vice-Chairman of the Trinidad Renaissance School. He is the chairman of the Public-Private Partnership ‘BizBooster’, a not-for-profit business incubator, and Vice-President of the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers Association (TTMA). He serves on the ratings committee of the Caribbean rating agency CARICRIS.
Dr. Balgobin is an Independent Senator in the Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (first appointed in 2010 in the 10th Parliament after having served in a temporary capacity in the 8th and 9th Parliaments) and a columnist for the Trinidad Express newspaper.
Dr. Balgobin has previously served as Chairman of the Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Company, the Telecommunications Company of Trinidad and Tobago, and as a director of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago and Youth Business Trinidad and Tobago. He led the technical team which pulled together the Vision 2020 National Strategic Plan for Trinidad and Tobago.
Dr. Balgobin holds a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) degree from the Manchester Business School at the University of Manchester, as well as an EMBA and a B.Sc. in Industrial Management from UWI. He also holds an ACCA Diploma in Corporate Governance and a Master of Studies from the University of Cambridge.
