Dr. Jennifer Kernahan (Dr. Jennifer Jones Kernahan) was first appointed a Senator in 2001, as a member of the United National Congress government. She also served as a Minister in the Ministry of Food Production and Marine Resources. She was reappointed as an Opposition Senator in October of 2002 and again in December of 2007.

Dr. Kernahan has served on a number of Parliamentary Committees including the Public Accounts (Enterprises) Committee, and the Joint Select Committee with oversight responsibility of Government Ministries, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises.

Dr. Kernahan is a veterinarian by profession.
