Ms. Cindy Devika Sharma was appointed a Senator on December 12th, 2007 as a member of the Opposition.  She was educated at the University of the West Indies where she gained a BA in English, graduating with First Class Honours. She then went on to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Education which she successfully attained in 2003. In 2005 Ms. Sharma began her Masters in Education at the University of the West Indies.

Before entering Parliament Ms. Sharma was a secondary school teacher for over nine years and prior to that worked as a part-time tutor for adult learners.

Ms. Sharma took and subscribed to the oath of office as a Senator of the 9th Parliament on Tuesday Janaury 15, 2008.
