Senator the Honourable Arnold Piggott

Mr. Arnold A. Piggott was appointed Minister of Agriculture, Land and Marine Resources of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on November 8, 2007. Minister Piggott previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs (2006-2007), Minister of Works and Transport (2001-2002), and also as High Comissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Canada (2003-2006).

Among his many achievements Minister Piggott championed and facilitated the restructuring and realignment of the organization structure, divisions and portfolios of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; commissioned and facilitated the production of a documented Foreign Policy for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago; and facilitated the simultaneous recruitment of thirty (30) International Relations Officers (IROs) for the first time in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his tenure as High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago to Canada, Minister Piggott pursued a range of initiatives at the diplomatic, bilateral and commercial levels which significantly enhanced the profile and image of Trinidad and Tobago in Canada. Main among these was the spearheading of a number of Trade and Investment Missions from Canada to Trinidad and Tobago which resulted in expanded trade and investment flows in favour of Trinidad and Tobago. Minister Piggott also conceptualized, designed and established the multi-faceted Permanent Exhibition/Conference Centre at the Chancery of the High Commission of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, which remains as a major symbol representing the “face of Trinidad and Tobago in Canada”.

A former banker with twenty-five years combined experience within the financial services sector of Trinidad and Tobago, Minister Piggott was also a consultant to leading banks in the CARICOM member states of Jamaica and Barbados.

A graduate of St. Francis College, Brooklyn, New York , Minister Piggott obtained a first degree in Business Management – the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).

Mr. Piggott credits his achievements to his passion for timeliness, a commitment to detail and persistence for high-level performance by team members. He is visionary, and conceptual in problem resolution with strong communication and analytical skills. He also maintains an extensive business network and enjoys public relations activities.

Minister Piggott is married and is the father of two sons and one daughter.
