Joint Select Committee on Finance and Legal Affairs
The Joint Select Committee on Finance and Legal Affairs is inviting comments as it pertains to its inquiry into the accessibility and quality of legal representation provided by the State with specific focus on the Legal Aid and Advisory Authority and the Public Defender’s Office.
As part of its inquiry process, the Committee is inviting all stakeholders and interested persons to submit written comments/suggestions related to the following objectives of the inquiry:
- To evaluate the efficacy of the legal services provided by the Legal Aid and Advisory Authority and Public Defenders’ Office in relation to:
i Summary matters;
ii Civil actions;
iii Criminal procedures; and
iv Representation of minors in capital offences via the Duty Counsel. - To assess the adequacy and effectiveness of the administrative systems and procedures of the Legal Aid and Advisory Authority and Public Defenders Office in the provision of legal representation.
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS JUNE 24th, 2022.
