Call for Submissions – JSC Foreign Affairs – Role of the Diaspora in National Development

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FRIDAY 28 MARCH, 2025

The Joint Select Committee on Foreign Affairs has commenced an inquiry into the role of the diaspora in National Development.

The objectives of the inquiry are as follows:

  1. To examine Trinidad and Tobago’s engagement with the Diaspora;
  2. To ascertain the role of the Diaspora in national development, including opportunities and challenges affecting the contribution of the Diaspora to Trinidad and Tobago’s development; and
  3. To identify the services and support received by the Diaspora from Trinidad and Tobago and mechanisms to improve service delivery.

The Committee is inviting diaspora organisations to submit written responses to the following questions:

  1. How has the Diaspora contributed to the national development of Trinidad and Tobago?
  2. What challenges do you encounter in contributing to the national development of Trinidad and Tobago?
  3. What services and support do you receive from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and what are the challenges experienced in accessing these services?
  4. In your opinion, are the services and support provided to the Diaspora sufficient and how can the services and support provided to the Diaspora be improved to achieve increased engagement?
