Mr. Ashton Beckles was appointed a Temporary Senator (Government) in the 6th Parliament, and again in the 2nd Session of the 7th Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on August 28, 2002. The 7th Parliament would be dissolved on midnight that day to make way for General Elections, since the House of Representatives failed to elect a Speaker.
