The Member for Tabaquite sought leave of the House to raise two matters as definite matters of urgent public importance, firstly, the need for the Government to take immediate action to stop the construction of a cell tower in Gasparillo, and secondly the need for the Government to remove the members of the board of the Urban Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT). In both instances the Speaker ruled that the matter did not qualify under this Standing Order (S.O. 11)
The Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs made a statement in the House wishing Happy Divali greetings to the Hindu Community.
The Minister of Information made a statement on the inaccurate reporting by a local media house on a ruling made by the Speaker on Friday October 9, 2009. In so doing the Minister sought leave to have the matter referred to the Committee of Privileges for consideration and report. The Speaker referred the matter.
The Minister of Agriculture, Land and Marine Resources moved a Motion to acquire lands for a public purpose. Some eight members made interventions before the Minister rose to conclude the debate. The Motion was then approved.
At its next sitting the House will consider the Commission of Enquiry (Validation and Immunity from Proceedings) Bill, 2009.
