18th Sitting of the House of Representatives
2nd Session - 10th Republican Parliament
The Speaker informed the House about the recent illness and hospitalization of the Member for San Fernando East, and that correspondence was sent wishing for his full and speedy recovery. The Speaker also granted leave of absence to both the Member for San Fernando East and the Member for Fyzabad.

The Member for Diego Martin North/East sought leave to raise as a definite matter of urgent public importance the issuance of an advertisement by the Ministry of Works seeking Expressions of Interest for a Light Transit System for the Priority Bus Route. The Speaker indicated that he was not satisfied that the matter qualified under Standing Order 12, and suggested that it instead be raised under Standing Order 11 (Matter raised on the Motion for the Adjournment of the House).
The Minister of Works and Infrastructure provided an update to the progress of the Point Fortin Highway Project.
The Speaker moved the first reading of a Private Bill, the National Ramleela Council of Trinidad and Tobago (Incorporation) Bill, 2011.
The Member for Laventille East/Morvant moved a motion which asks the House to take note of the dismantling of national security systems and to call on the government to take steps to bring about a reduction in crime in Trinidad and Tobago. The debate was initiated with a contribution by the Minister of National Security, followed by the Member for Diego Martin North/East. Debate on the motion was then suspended.
the Leader of the House indicated that at the next sitting debate is expected on two Motions, the first by the Minister of Public Utilities to approve the Water Improvement Rate (Point Lisas Industrial Estate) (Variation) Order, 2011, and the second by the Minister of National Security to approve the Police Service (Amendment) Regulations, 2011. Time permitting, debate will begin on the Legal Aid and Advice (Amendment) Bill, 2011. The sitting ended at 4:34 p.m.
