Purpose:
To provide a permanent and accurate record of the proceedings of both Houses of Parliament and verbatim reports of meetings of Select Committees

The responsibilities of this unit include:
- The prompt production of verbatim transcripts of proceedings of Parliament;
- The timely editing of verbatim transcripts of proceedings of the Senate and House of Representatives;
- Facilitating the printing, by the Government Printer, of the official Hansard.
This unit has embarked on a transition to Computer Aided Transcription (CAT) in order to facilitate the timely production of the Verbatim reports, and ultimately, the Hansard.
