Remarks:
  • The purpose of the Bill is to empower constables to demand samples of breath and in certain instances, samples of blood from persons thought to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • The Bill requires a special (three-fifths) majority in order to be passed
  • On 03 November 2006, the House of Representatives referred this Bill to a Joint Select Committee of Parliament
  • The Committee submitted its Report, which was adopted by the House via Motion on June 01, 2007.
  • The Bill was read a third time and passed unanimously in the House on June 01, 2007
  • The Bill was debated and passed with amendments in the Senate on July 04, 2007
